This artwork was created using Prismacolor Premium coloured pencils on black Stonehenge cotton rag and measures 56 x 76cm. The artwork was completed in 2021.
The short beaked common dolphin is probably one of the most common species of dolphin, and it has a broad distribution around the world. It is a fast swimmer (over 60 kilometers per hour), and breaching behavior and aerial acrobatics are common with this species. They are very social animals and usually associate in groups that can consist of 1000s individuals.
I captured this image while diving off eastern Maria Island, Tasmania. These dolphins swam around me for several minutes when I was completing a deco stop at 6m. They were so beautiful to watch as they glided through the water with ease. It was an interaction I will never forget.
The surface of the cotton rag is very delicate and will scuff easily if not handled carefully. It is recommended the artwork is delivered to a professional framer. To avoid reflections from the glass, it is highly recommended a clear non-reflective glass is used.
As this is an unframed piece, it will be carefully rolled into a parcel tube for postage.
